16 (e) VSCA Environmentally Friendlier Packaging

* Did you know that white paper bags are chemically bleached and that these chemicals are released into the waste stream? Brown paper bags are not bleached and therefore are more environmentally friendly! A very small change from using white to using only brown paper bags can make a difference.

* Did you know that you can purchase serviettes made from recycled paper? These are more environmentally friendly than standard white or coloured serviettes.

Like everyone in our community, to help protect the fragile environment of our precious planet earth, in our school canteens we need to reuse, reduce and recycle the packaging we use.

By rethinking how and what we purchase, and how we wrap and pack items for sale, we can make a valuable contribution to reducing our impact on the environment. We also can set a powerful example to our students. Small changes can make huge differences.

A diverse range of environmentally friendlier packaging is becoming available. Some packaging is made using recycled materials (paper, sugar cane fibre, bamboo, palm leaves). Other packaging uses materials that are biodegradable and can be composted. By using this packaging, we help to create a demand and guarantee the ongoing development and production of better packaging options.

You can now purchase "environmentally friendlier" packaging items directly from VSCA.

See VSCA Enviro Friendlier Food Packaging for details of VSCA's range.
