Alan McLean, Principal

"Kayleen is nominated ... because of her outstanding commitment to her role, and her willingness to be innovative and to promote new food lines in the canteen.

Kayleen is a bright, cheerful person who is always willing to support the students, and the school. Her commitment to the school sees her arrive early for work, and she continues to work hard all day, with a finish time often well past her scheduled finish time. She manages two part time paid casual staff and parent volunteers very efficiently, and there is a great team environment in the canteen.

This is her fourth year as Manager, and her time as Manager has been characterised by new product lines with a focus on health and nutrition, and increased profitability. Kayleen commenced providing breakfast in the canteen a couple of years ago, with a low cost toasted sandwich and milo available for students. New products introduced into the canteen in the past twelve months have included yoghurt, nachos, baked potatoes, sweet chilli wraps, salad packs, cantelope and pineapple packs, sushi and fried rice. These have complemented our wide range of salad rolls, fruit salad and pies, pasties and sausage rolls. We continue to have a small range of cakes and biscuits. Our canteen is a busy place with both staff and students supporting the canteen. The patronage from staff is significant, and this says a lot about the quality and variety of food in the canteen.

Kayleen has managed to keep prices down, possibly at the lowest level of any canteen in Shepparton, yet produce increased profit. Our salad rolls are exceptional value with the highest priced, roast chicken and salad roll, being $3.

Her willingness to support the school has seen us move most of our catering for staff meetings, professional development days and staff dinners to the canteen. Nothing is ever too hard for Kayleen - she willingly accepts the job and therefore keeps the money in the school.

As Marlene, one of our part time assistants says, 'Kayleen is dedicated, hard working and fair. She works with us, rather than just be the boss.'

I consider our canteen to be an outstanding canteen with an outstanding manager."
