"We would like to introduce you to Tanya Brooker, our school
community's nomination for Voluntary Manager of the Year.
"… she was a volunteer for the Commonwealth Games in
March which is just one of her many hats and demonstrates
her willingness to be an extraordinary Australian citizen.
"Tanya is married with two children, William aged 7
and Laura aged 8 who started school here in 2004. Tanya works
part-time at the Department of Environment and Sustainability
and when she is not involved in being a mum and wife, Tanya
is our school tuckshop manager and School Councillor.
"We are a small rural school outside of Traralgon in
Gippsland and we have a tuckshop that services our students.
For the past two years Tanya has been canteen manager, roster
organiser, orderer of foodstuffs, chief cook and bottle washer.
Many a time we are unable to get tuckshop help and Tanya comes
in every time if she is able.
"She is infinitely patient with all of us, teachers,
administration staff and students and parents alike.
"Perhaps Tanya's biggest contribution to our school
and the ongoing effect her influence is having is in the area
of providing a healthy eating menu.
"Tanya has sought out, trialled and designed new healthy
products for us to sell in the canteen. She is always willing
to take on suggestions or make ideas of her own. She actively
attends canteen association sessions around healthy food products
and was instrumental in helping us organise health eating
days we have had at school in an effort to raise awareness
about childhood obesity.
"We value her contribution to our school greatly and
without her we wouldn't have a canteen. When she eventually
retires, we will have a legacy left behind of a healthier
menu."
