"Gilson College canteen staff have worked really hard this
year in maintaining the healthy diet which they provide for
our students. Given the challenge of feeding our students
a balanced vegetarian fare, it has simply gone from strength
to strength. Our students have adapted to not having the usual
deep fried foods and have taken to the healthy option of fresh
fruit snacks as a better alternative.
"With this award, we would like our Canteen Manager
and Canteen Helper recognised for their efforts in maintaining
and promoting the importance of healthy eating for our students.
"We uphold our canteen manager, Isabell Ippolito, who
goes out of her way to find the varieties of vegetarian snacks
and lunches that the students and staff can choose from. She
makes changes to the menu to cater for the students' needs
and also takes into account seasonal changes. Usually our
canteen has parent helpers coming in to assist with food preparation
and serving students ... sometimes, it is only the canteen
manager and her helper that are there to do all the daily
preparation as well as serve the students ... even when that
happens they still manage to put on a happy face and cater
to the demanding crowd of students and staff they get each
lunch and recess time.
"We also commend our canteen helper, Marija Rajkov,
who started the school canteen when the school opened and
managed it alone for the first few years. Marija has tirelessly
worked at the canteen doing what needs to be done and much
more."
