"Pam Schepers has been employed at Eaglehawk Secondary College for over ten years in the capacity as Canteen Manager. Our College caters for over 600 secondary school students and is located in a low socio-economic area as a suburb of Bendigo. As a school, we are fortunate to have Pam Schepers. Pam is very conscious of the students' dietary needs and wants and has embraced the latest trend towards serving healthy food as a measure to fight obesity in students.

"On many days, Pam is short of canteen helpers or parent volunteers and will "gladly" soldier on by herself. This is an immense task considering the school size.

"Our canteen menu has evolved over the years, however there has always been a focus on healthy food choices and in conjunction with our school nurse and the college welfare committee, Pam has been able to provide food that is consistent with the education department's guidelines on what students should eat.

"On many occasions, Pam has provided help and advice to several of the local Bendigo schools in the areas of menu choices, food plans required for the local council and health and safety issues. On occasions, she can be seen helping serve in other canteens on our own pupil free days.

"... Whether it is hearty pumpkin soup or a baked potato with sour cream in winter to a chicken satay wrap in summer, Pam is always aware of the need to regularly change the range of foods offered.

"On occasions, Pam has been known to cook something 'special' for a staff member who has needed cheering up due to a family or health crisis.

"She is a very caring person who has received little acknowledgement for her tireless efforts over the years and her commitment to the enterprise of education."
